Description
A horse mid-rising. Not yet arrived. Uppror.
The Swedish word means uprising — the literal rising of the animal, and something more. This large-scale painting catches the horse at the threshold of movement: front legs lifting from the charcoal ground, the raw sienna body emerging from dark smoke, the expressive black line holding the form as colour breaks loose around it. In the upper right, fragments of yellow and green suggest light, or a world beyond the frame the horse is moving toward.
Painted in acrylic on canvas with charcoal and mixed media. The surface is textured, gestural, built in layers of paint applied with brush, palette knife, and mark-making. It is a painting made quickly and revised slowly — the kind of work that reveals itself as it dries.
This painting commands a room. It is not decoration. It is presence.
